Hi Everyone!  Long time since I last posted.  I have been caught up in preparing for classes and helping launch BES 4 and Simply Applique for Brother, so I haven't been posting.  This on top of getting ready to put my house on the market has made life a bit hectic.

However, good news, my newsletter went out last night.   The tip this  time is on how to use the ScanNCut features that were added in the last update.  If you haven't updated your Version 10 software, go do so now!  The new functionality gives you an artwork program for the ScanNCut!   Yeah!  You can arc text, put it on a path, draw stuff and instead of embroidering it, export it to an FCM file and cut out of Vinyl, Heat Transfer Vinyl or whatever you want!  Great update!

If you didn't get the newsletter or need me to forward it to you, as always, email me @ cindyhogan@cynthiasembroidery.com.

By the way, I am teaching at the Tidewater EQS show and we have an awesome lineup of instructors.  I will be teaching ScanNCut, Applique and Using some of the SNC's upgrade features (stamping and rhinestones) to create a winter apron.  This was a great retreat last year.  I think this year's will be even better.

Ask for your Cindy Hogan discount by calling: Tidewater's Eductaion Department  (757) 321-3952

Have a Sewmazing (my new made up word for you) weekend,

National Craft Month Class pick of the day and Princess's dog treats

And today's National Craft month Craftsy pick is Love Your Vegetables. Since I need to eat healthier and I am sure some of you may as well, I watched Anna's class today. Well worth my time...Anna is very engaging and knowledgeable about fresh vegetables. The recipes are easy to follow and sound amazing! Here is my affiliate link http://www.craftsy.com/ext/CynthiaHogan_4231_CP

Just for you....Princess's favorite Dog treat recipe.

1/2 lb lean ground beef

1/2 cup Minute rice cooked to package directions (you need 1/2 cup of water)

1 egg

Brown the beef.  Place in a food processor and finely chop.

Add the rice and process some more

Add in the egg and process some more until it is a gooey mix.

Get a microwave safe baking dish and scoop teaspoons of the mix into the bowl.

Place in the microwave for 2min or so.  Look and see if they are firm.  If not, put them back in for another 45 seconds to a min.  Continue until they are firm (not crunchy).

Remove and place on a paper towel to cool.

Place in a plastic baggy and put in the fridge.

This is the only treat she will do anything for!  She loves them :)

Enjoy!

National Craft month Day 5 Craftsy class pick...the perfect finish...How to Bind a Quilt. Wow, the name is falls short in describing this class. It has tons of information packed into it. So much that I have to finish watching it tomorrow. Susan is an amazing instructor. Very, very informative. She talks about binding a quilt, but there is so much more information in the class. I am 2/3rds of the way through it. I was enjoying so much I was rewinding and kept forgetting to take a screenshot for you.  Here is the link for her class.

National Craft Month

Craftsy is going to make a donation to some lucky Craftsy class owner.  You will be entered if you purchase a class through an instructor link during the next two weeks.  Ok, so what is Craftsy and why in the heck would I be interested??? Right??? Craftsy is an online learning platform that has an amazing amount of classes to choose from.  The wonderful part is that you own the class for life.  You can watch it in the comfort of your own home (in your jammies if you want).  If you don't like it, Craftsy refunds your money.  No risk whatsoever!  I am proud to have a class on their platform, it is wonderful to meet people from all over the world who take the class and to see their amazing projects.  However, it is also a learning platform for me as well.  I am testing out classes this week, focusing on the classes I think will be most helpful in learning about embroidery.  Today's class recommendation is Stabilizer Savvy.  This is a class that can benefit most everyone.  Successful stabilization is the foundation of good embroidery.  Terri is a wonderful instructor and is full of information.  I think you will really enjoy the class and find it very helpful.  #affiliate

Spliting a design for a multi-position hoop

Carol asked a question about splitting a design for the multi-position hoop in PE-DESIGN NEXT.  The multi-position hoop has a hoop in PE-DESIGN NEXT.  It is the 130-300mm hoop.  The multi-position hoops are listed with an asterisk next to them in the hoop pull down menu.
The design elements must fit into one of the dashed line areas.  The software doesn't automatically split for this hoop unless it is a text element.  If the design is too large for one of these areas, you will get an error message.  This hoop is really a way of combining multiple design elements into one space so that you can use the multi-position hoop.  The three images below illustrate this.  In the first image, there is only one design element, but it is larger than a 5x7 hoop segment and is in fixed stitch format.  The design can't be broken up automatically, therefore the error message that is seen in hoop 2 will appear.  The only thing this hoop splits automatically is text created with the text tool or individual design elements that fit into each of the hoop segments.

This image shows the motorcycle in one hoop and the lettering all the way across.  It will split the lettering automatically.  There is a workaround that you can try.   This is to use the split stitches tool found on the Stitches attributes tab.
This image shows the motorcycle is in one hoop, but the lettering goes all the way across the multi-position hoop.  The  software will split the lettering automatically, but it can't split the motorcycle automatically.  There is a workaround you can.  Click on the motorcycle, click on the Stitches Attributes tab at the top of the window and choose the Split Stitches tool.

With the Split Stitches tool, draw around part of the motorcycle.  Make sure the part you surround fits into one hoop.  Double click and the design will split into 2 parts.
I have moved the right side away so you can see the split.  The  software does feather the edges, but it doesn't add any extra stitches to keep it from having a gap when it is embroidered.

This design would split automatically because there are 3 separate design elements that make up the design.
The custom hoop option may be worth a shot, but you would have to make sure you keep the finished size of the design to 120 x 300.  Otherwise, you will have to hoop a second time as that is the section size of the 5x7 hoop in the Custom hoop area.  I haven't tried the custom hoop feature with a multi-position hoop.  I no longer have a machine that needs that hoop, so I don't have it.
For more information on the Custom hoop feature, look at pages 824-827 of my PE-DESIGN NEXT workbook.
Enjoy!
